Castello dei Rampolla Sammarco is a ‘Super-Tuscan’ red wine blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (30%) and Sangiovese (5%). The fruit is sourced from the estates vineyards in Panzano, unquestionably one of the great communes of Chianti, with such perfect conditions that it boasts a huge number of wineries certified as organic. However, the idiosyncratic Rampolla doesn’t worry about any such certification, since it is adamant that not a single drop of herbicide or fertiliser has touched its soils in the 300 years it has been farming them. Vines were planted in the 1960s, and the estate went biodynamic in the 1990s. The Castello dei Rampolla Sammarco is a sublime and elegant red wine, with wild flowers, dark red fruits, cedar and spice notes intermingling with vibrant acidity and full fine tannins.
